The inspiration for Madeline's work comes from a variety of sources including her memories of childhood, ideas surrounding home and the domestic environment, folk art and the natural world. She explores themes through textiles, mixed media, collage and illustration, combining different textures, materials and patterns and using hand and machine sewing and embroidery. Madeline often incorporates vintage, antique and reclaimed materials.
By using these resources she feels she is adding layers of history to her own work and bringing new life to the discarded.
Deborette Clarke is a fun, loving creative who has many years experience in design and education. After participating in a few leather workshops and trying to kerb her designer bag habit, she decided to experiment with leather and a pre-owned leather sewing machine. B18 Leather was born, inspired by heritage and contemporary life - shapes are simple and colour is key.
Currently the range of small leather goods includes wallets, purses, pouches and key rings. Some pieces are hand painted using a variety of methods. During the making process the skin or hide is treated as a blank ‘canvas’ for the application of paint and colour.
